5 Things to Boost Your Energy in the Morning

Many of us who live in a world that requires us to work long days and/or stay up to the wee hours of the night tends to, over time, take its toll on our health. By not getting enough sleep or exercise, eating the proper foods, or over stimulating ourselves oncoffee, we are asking for trouble down the road. Many of us believe that being "tired" is a normal way of life and drinking 4 cups of coffee is just fine because everyone else seems to be doing it. Most of us carry-on  without even questioning our routines. We have been so programmed into what "society" has been telling us that it becomes part of our daily reality. The good news however is that we are all capable of overcoming any situation, thereby "choosing" the reality in which to live that excites us the most. Unfortunately, many of us still "choose" to follow the "norm" and as a result suffer from boredom and unhappiness. The reality is that we all have the capability of choosing the way in which we want to live that is conducive to our own objectives (taking into consideration the benefit to the whole) which will propel us into a more fulfilling and happier life. In an effort to guide you through this path, we have listed a few things that we do in the morning to kick start our day.

5 Energy Boosting Practices

1. Be Thankful: It is amazing to think of the many things we can be thankful for. It seems the list is endless! As soon as you awaken in the morning be sure to say thanks to at least one thing. As the laws of physics dictate, we are what we think, and what we put out, is what we inevitably get back. If we culture a positive mindset as soon as we open our eyes, the day has a high potential of being that much more enjoyable. Give thanks, and those sentiments shall be returned.

2. Be Happy: Happiness is innate in all of us. Every day we choose to be who we want to be. Any good day has to begin with a positive mindset. In order to achieve this, think happy thoughts (it's really that simple)! In order to better prepare you for the potential of negative influences, picture yourself as a pillar of light. Envision light entering through the top of your head and filling your entire body with that warm, positive light. Let is expand outward and hold the thought for a few minutes. By allowing yourself to let the light flow in, you can become the light. Many other people are also experimenting with sacred geometry - a tool that is many hundreds if not thousands of years old. For example, the pyramid has its basis in healing. The shape itself is conducive to energy balancing. Whenever you feel distressed or overcome by negative energy, use the "Holon of balance" whereby visualizing yourself encapsulated in an octahedron; sure, this sounds hokey, but we can ensure you that it is a very powerful tool.

3. Drink Water: Rather than reaching for that cup (or two) of coffee in the morning, ensure that you drink at least 2-4 cups (500ml-1litre) of water as you get up. Our bodies consist of mostly water and many of our body processes depend on it. When we feed our body with coffee it inevitably dehydrates us. It gives us false energy by over stimulating our adrenal glands, thereby weakening our fight or flight response. If you drink coffee simply for the taste, it is important to have at least 2 cups of water for every cup of coffee so your body does not enter into a state of dehydration. Water provides our cells, and thus our bodies with energy; it is the fuel which makes us run. Without it (for even a few days), can be life threatening; coffee on the other hand, we can live without.

4. Get Moving Our bodies were not designed to sit around and collect dust. We were made to move. After you have finished drinking the 2-4 cups of recommended water, ensure that you get involved in some quick exercises that will get the blood and oxygen pumping throughout your body, helping it to awaken and speed-up the elimination of waste and other toxic materials that may be floating around in it. The exercise of choice does not need to be strenuous by any means; as long as you are involved some kind of body movement (stretching or yoga will suffice) this should effectively propel you into your day.

5. Cold Water Therapy: Cold water therapy has been practiced for many thousands of years. The ancient Greeks along with the Spartans understood the healing properties of cold water as they often dipped in icy water for vigour and improved health. It is said that cold water therapy can improve conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, regulate our adrenal glands, and can also contribute to a stronger immunity. Even the thought of dipping in to ice cold water gives many a chill, but it is sure to kick start anyone's day! Simply stand with your neck and upper back facing the shower head and slowly adjust the water to cold; stand there for at least 30 seconds (or however long you can stand it) and then turn the water off. Be sure to practice this daily to reap the cumulative benefits.

In order for us to succeed in anything we must be willing to give a little. By following these 5 simple methods laid out above, you are sure to start seeing improvement in your energy almost instantly. These are but a few of the many things you can do to kick start your day into one that will inevitably be filled with success and positivity. All in all, determine what is best for you; find the formula that will propel you to new possibilities. Remember, we are all capable of achieving anything we wish to achieve - never cease reaching higher.
